Blogs that grow yourself & your business Using your human Design
Out of the 5 Human Design energy types, Generators can have endless energy to build and bring things to life.
This is because they have access to their own energy (meaning the sacral is defined) which allows them to go on forever as long as the ideas they bring to life excite them. Through their joy and excitement, they “pull” things to them, like new ideas, leads, clients, etc.
Compared to the other 3 energy types, Projectors, Manifestors, and Reflectors, who do not have their sacral defined, Generators (and Manifesting-Generators) can go on forever without experiencing massive burnout.
However, Generators in the context of energy exchange, aren't here to start things like a Manifestor, such as launching something.
If they do, they will be let down when things don’t work out or they’ll feel they’re forcing, pushing, and chasing in their business, killing their joy and play. This leads to crushing their magnetism (ability to pull things towards them).
More importantly, they will feel frustrated when their gifts aren’t recognized, leading to more activation of the shadow self.
A Generator’s strategy or the way they engage with the world and business is mainly through “Responding.” This allows what they engage with to have more payoff, whether it be ROI, relationships, or lessons that lead to the next thing because of the energy they put out, new opportunities etc..
Generators operate best when they work from a place of joy and play. This makes them magnetic when they create content and on sales calls. This is where things start to become effortless.
However, because we’ve been conditioned to “become” like the person pushing, forcing, and starting, over time this builds a constant sense of urgency in us to get things done. And if it doesn’t work, we panic and do more work, and the cycle starts again.
This steals our joy, and we start to allow lower state emotions (LSE) like frustration, anger, disappointment, panic, and desperation to settle in, killing our internal energy.
And our audience feels that through what we put out and what we say.
For example, have you ever been on sales calls where you feel desperation and or urgency? And how we’re those close rates?
Suddenly, the things we create come from a place where we are doing it to tick off a box because the last business coach said to do it.
And we wonder why we’re stuck in our growth in sales?
Why are we attracting unqualified people onto sales calls or into our program?
If you’re a Generator energy type (like me), then you need to find a balance between work and what gives you joy and feels like play. This must be a priority because it cascades down to everything you do.
Joy means doing things that light you up, and it can be anything ranging from a hobby, working out, walking, sitting quietly at a coffee shop with an espresso, or talking to someone you enjoy.
No matter how big or small, if it gives you joy, do that first or schedule it sometime during the day.
Generators pull things towards us; that’s one of our gifts outside of having nearly endless energy to keep working on something we love and enjoy.
Another big theme of Generators is we love to master something and gain depth in our craft. The more we allow ourselves to scratch the itch of what we want to know and put out into the world, the more it fills us with joy, and the marketing we put out to share with the world feels more like play.
In your Human Design chart, you have something called “Strategy.” This is how you engage with the world. In the context of business, this is how you engage with your leads and audience.
A Generator’s strategy is to “Respond,” meaning they respond to the world around them. This may feel like it’s being “reactive.”
However, that’s conditioning from childhood or school, where we’re told we must go after it and initiate.
To respond means two things, because we don’t have to just sit there and wait for the universe to give you a sign.
The first way to respond.
We can respond to anything that has been or is in your head, and that can come from:
Something you hear in a podcast
Something someone said to you
Something you saw at a bookstore
Something you saw in nature
Something you see pop up in social media
What’s happening here is, what we have in our head (the idea, thing to do) is being confirmed by the universe to go after it. That’s when it’s right to go for it and create or build.
However, it’s important to check if what we’re responding to is in alignment with where we’re going. Otherwise, we could be taking on dozens of things. Use the Authority to help you decide if it’s right to respond, especially if it’s a bigger decision.
The second way to respond.
The other way to respond is to our “Sacral.” It's when you have an idea and it creates a full-body pull towards that thing or a feeling of full-body excitement.
From there, respond to that signal. But first, check in with our authority. If it’s right, then go for it.
Remember, the big theme of Generators is joy and play.
All of this relates to getting leads, having DM conversations, doing sales calls, creating content, planning content, offers you put out, managing our team, etc.
If you’re just starting to live out your Human Design, it’s recommended to start with small easy things first to begin your de-conditioning process from starting things to responding to things.
First, start with something easy in your life, like what to eat. If you have an idea or feel like something, wait for something to confirm it.
With business, if you have an idea for content or a mini offer, keep that idea until your world confirms it.
If we enter into the “thing” by responding or responding to our full-body pull, then it will always be right.
And right can mean be at the time it’s right or it leads to something else based on where you want to go.
However, following our strategy is one thing, but we have to put it through the boss, which is your Authority.
This is the decision-maker for you. There are 7 different ways people can make a decision. I'll go over the most common ones for Generators here.
In Human Design, our mind organizes, processes, and conceptualizes information we get from the world. However, it does not make the final decision (that’s conditioning from school or others).
Our bodies make the final decision.
Some energy types are quick to make the decision based on their intuition or gut feeling, cultivated through experiences and trial and error in the past.
Other energy types need a few days or a week to make a decision, and either is okay.
We must respect how we operate and trust that if we follow this decision, it’s right for us in where we intend to go.
Here are the common Generator Authorities:
Sacral - If your authority says “Sacral,” this means you can make decisions in a second. You respond best to decision-making when they’re Yes/No questions, and you either know you want to do the thing or not. This decision-making comes from within, like a quick gut feeling or a full-body pull (aka excitement). The challenge when making decisions from your sacral is sometimes it’s illogical from what your mind is telling you. But your mind is only a tool that organizes and processes things, not the CEO to make the final decision. It takes trust that sometimes you don’t get the “result” right away, but it could lead somewhere or build a foundation for the next thing.
Splenic - If your authority says Splenic, this means you make decisions in the moment, and you just know. You don’t know how you know, but you just know.
Emotional - If you’re an emotional authority, this means you go through waves of emotions and cannot make a decision right then and there. You must wait or “sleep on it.” This is because your decision needs to be the same each day, whether you’re feeling excited or low. It’s like allowing your decision to be constant no matter the storm.
Your feelings and emotions are your guides and signposts; they mean something, which is why we feel the way we feel.
For example,
If you're working a career and you feel miserable every day when you go to work, that's a sign that what you’re doing is not aligned and what you seek is joy and fulfillment in your work.
For the Generator in our business, we have two main themes that tell us if something is off.
This can be:
An offer we created
How we’re delivering the offer
The coaches we hire
The people we hire onto our team
How we market and sell
Etc
The first theme in your Human Design chart is the “Not-Self,” and for Generators, it’s “Frustration.”
When we start feeling this emotion and it becomes a repeating pattern, this is our sign that something is off, and we need to explore what that is and address it before it leads to other subsets of emotions and feelings.
The second theme is the “Signature,” which is the feeling of “Satisfaction.” This feeling tells us that we’re on the right path and feel satisfied with our decisions on where we’re going.
To sum up, you’re after the feeling of “Satisfaction” as a generator. The more you can fill your life with it, the more fulfilled you’ll be in what you do.
What you’ve read in this blog is the foundational actions you must start doing and embracing them before the other parts of your Human Design come together such as your Energy Centers, Gates and Channels.
The other stuff acts like lenses of how it’s expressed based on what your strategy and authority tells you.
The biggest challenge that Generators need to look at is deconditioning from our past and start leaning in on how we’re designed to work.
Human Design is not a knowing thing, it’s a “doing” thing for us to really know, for anyone who is new I highly suggest you start going back and thinking about the times you did respond to something and how that played out.
And the times where you kept pushing and initiating and how that worked out. This helps you connect the dots.
