Blogs that grow yourself & your business Using your human Design
Remember when you first started your business and got lost in your work, losing track of time while bringing your idea to life?
Turning your knowledge into something tangible and valuable that people will pay for.
Feeling excited and joyful about where your business could lead you.
You were in a “flow” state.
Flow is a term coined by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. He describes it as a state where people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter.
The experience is so enjoyable that people will do it even at great cost, just for the sake of doing it.
In this state, you lose track of time, your actions and decisions become fluid, and you’re fully immersed in what you’re doing.
It’s the secret sauce behind some of the greatest performances and innovations in history.
For the entrepreneur, it’s when you’re okay getting up at 4am to get your business off the ground.
Or…
handling the pressure of going from coaching to getting your marketing done to picking up your kids from school.
But after a while, things in your business tend to feel like a drag. Things get hard, and we fight self-doubt when no one recognizes our work, when enrollments are low we feel pressure and anxiety, and we realize that...
Business is more than just the “doing” it’s managing all these low state emotions (LSE) that put a weight and drain on our energy… which then eventually lead to resistance in doing the things we need to do.
The constant pressure to ‘show-up’ and ‘hope’ to get leads and sales
The constant anxiety of having an undone things to do for the next day
The constant feeling of ‘flying by the seat’ of your pants with content
Those feelings in the beginning that pulled you towards your work have now dimmed.
And you feel you’re constantly ‘pushing’ and ‘forcing’ yourself to get things done to get the results you were told you’d get if you “just did the work” and “do what I tell you” (familiar saying from biz coaches?).
So we pep talk ourselves, do some pain-driven mindset exercise to “beat” us into doing the thing we need to do to push back these low state emotions (LSE)
And we wonder where did that flow state go from when you started?!?
And with the law of the mirror, if you’re feeling complete resistance and fighting things in your business all the time, or you lose the joy...
Guess who else is going to feel and sense that? *hint your audience.
Get Back Your Flow With Your Coaching Business
Now, what if it didn’t have to be as hard as we’re making it?
The reason we’re fighting so much resistance is because we’re working against how we’re designed to work.
Today, we invest in a program or mastermind to get our business started, which is fine. The problem is how we were taught to grow our coaching business.
Everyone is fit into one box of how they should operate, making us copies of our business coach’s marketing and sales.
I’ve got news… the way your business coach grew their business is not how you were designed to grow yours.
This is why you see some people always winning, posting new revenue milestones in their masterminds or programs and you look at their stuff and there’s typos and their stuff isn’t anything extraordinary.
While others keep pushing, but results aren’t coming in as easily.
They’re embracing how they work, even if they don’t know it.
Some people can start things and they just work out (an idea, an offer). For others, it could require their audience to send them a DM or email, and things flow.
And another set of coaches needs their audience to engage to create a better exchange of energy, connection, and sales just come.
You have to discover how you work best and start to own it! It’s pretty easy once you start accepting and experimenting with it.
Human Design gives direction, a blueprint of how you work best energetically, so you can express yourself at your highest state which means...
Your audience feels that too.
I mean, who would you rather invest in?
The person whose message and the way they show up feels like play and joy?
Or...
The person whose message and the way they show up feels forced and scripted?
Eliminate Resistance & Create More Pull In All Aspects Of Your Business Based On Your Energy Type
There are 5 Energy Types in Human Design. Each type has a different way of operating in life and business, such as how they start and enter new ideas, improve processes, and handle sales conversations.
I suggest you get your Human Design Chart done if you haven’t already, as everything you read here will make more sense.
Everyone is different in how they make decisions aligned with where they want to go.
Knowing and understanding your energy type is the first step to finding more ease in your business.
Here are the 5 Energy Types:
Manifestor
Generator
Manifesting-Generator
Projector
Reflector
Each energy type works differently in how they engage with the world and how they start and enter things, which is called your “Strategy.”
Also, each energy type makes decisions differently, which is your “Authority.” There are about 7 types of decision-makers.
In this blog article, I’ll dive into the 5 energy types.
But... based on your Human Design chart, go ahead and skip to the part for your type so you can apply this today!
If you’ve just discovered Human Design or know about your energy type but never played around with it,
I suggest you forget all the other layers of your chart and focus on what I’m about to say here for the next 2 weeks to a month for the quickest results.
What I’ve outlined below is the foundation of your Energy type which then affects everything else down the line like your Profile (aka your brand magnetism) and your Channels (talents and gifts).
It’s kind of like,
If you're a health coach, you can’t give supplements to help someone's condition if your client is always having wine and pasta every day.
Or...
If you’re a self-development coach, you can’t help a person remove limiting beliefs if they aren't open to being helped in the first place.
The Foundation of how you operate (what the terms mean)
Strategy - This is how you start and enter into things so there’s better energy exchange.
Authority - This is how you make decisions. There are a total of 7 different ways people make decisions. For this blog post, I’ll go over the 3 most common ones for online entrepreneurs. And in another blog, we’ll deep dive into all 7.
Here are the 3 most common “Authorities” (how you make decisions):
Sacral - If your authority says “Sacral,” this means you can make decisions in a second. You respond best to decision making when they’re Yes/No questions, and you either know you want to do the thing or not. This decision-making comes from within, like a quick gut feeling or a full-body pull (aka excitement). The challenge when making decisions from your sacral is sometimes it’s illogical from what your mind is telling you. But your mind is only a tool that organizes and processes things, not the CEO to make the final decision. It takes trust that sometimes you don’t get the “result” right away, but it could lead somewhere or build a foundation for the next thing.
Splenic - If your authority says Splenic, this means you make decisions in the moment, and you just know. You don’t know how you know, but you just know.
Emotional - If you’re an emotional authority, this means you go through waves of emotions and cannot make a decision right then and there. You must wait or “sleep on it.” This is because your decision needs to be the same each day, whether you’re feeling excited or low. It’s like allowing your decision to be constant no matter the storm.
Now we go onto your emotions that signal you.
Signature Feeling - This is a feeling that you’re on the right track with your decisions and actions, even if you face challenges. It’s the “constant” that you want to feel.
Not-Self Theme - This is a signal that you’re either not on the right track or something you’re doing is unaligned with where you want to go or who you are.
Manifestors are a powerful energy type that makes things happen by starting something.
Once they have an idea or want to pursue something that aligns with their authority (how they make decisions), they go and get it done.
When they’re in action, everything bends to their will. Their audience gets pulled towards them by their actions.
Manifestors are bold and make things happen. They don’t need permission; they just need to follow their strategy. They lead by their actions and voice.
But there are two caveats.
Manifestors have a limited amount of energy because they're main source of energy is their "will".
If they keep pushing and starting things, they burn out quickly. They need to figure out their work-rest ratio.
For some, it’s 28-30 days. For others, it's 45-90 days when they need to schedule some time off.
The second is they have to tell someone, or in Human Design, they call it “Inform,” before they execute. Who they inform are people who need to know based on their authority (decision center).
Examples of how a Manifestor markets and sells
They could post an idea to their audience and ask for replies or comments to see who’s in.
They could do a 30-day launch for their core program.
They can start conversations with people in DMs
Generators bring ideas to life. This energy type is the creators and builders. When they do something they love, they can go on forever.
Some of us are taught to be a Manifestor from a young age, like,
Go out and get it! Be proactive! Stop waiting around!
But if we’re not Manifestors, we spend our lives chasing things, pushing, and fighting resistant feelings, using up our willpower.
And when things don’t work because we follow a Manifestor's energy, our self-worth drains and self-doubt weaves its way in like a parasite.
If you’re a Generator (like me), you have permission to NOT start things and go after them.
Instead, our energy type pulls things toward us, like opportunities, clients, people, ideas, etc.
Our strategy is to “wait to respond.” We respond to our world, from what we read and see on social media, YouTube, a show, what someone says in a conversation, to what we see on a walk or in books.
These are “signs” from the universe that it’s time to act or an affirmation that what you have in your head is where you need to take it.
As a Generator, we love to experience joy. When we make things playful or do something that gives us joy, it draws others towards us. We also love mastery of a craft or depth of something.
We are not surface-level people. This doesn’t mean we can’t explore something for fun, as long as it gives us joy.
Choosing what to “Respond” to or what to master depends on how you make decisions, indicated in your Human Design chart.
Because we can’t enter everything, it’s important to use your Authority to make decisions that align with your business goals and life vision.
Examples of how a Generator markets and sells
Create a post about an offer that lights up your gut and ask for a comment/reply/DM so you can respond.
Listen to a podcast/TV show/YouTube video that inspires you and respond to what speaks to you (you’ll know because you’ll get a hit of an idea).
Scroll through Facebook/Instagram intentionally to see the trends and what people need to hear, then create.
Do more IG/FB/YT lives with another person so you can ask questions and use your guest’s answers as something to “respond to.”
The essence of a Generator is that joy is your biggest brand magnetism and anchor.
Make joy a priority because once it's gone, everything down the line in your work will suffer.
Energy Type: Manifesting Generators
Manifesting-Generators are a mix of Manifestors and Generators. They can make things happen like Manifestors and get things done like Generators.
They are multi-passionate doers who get the most energy when they feel free to focus on things that light them up and have flexibility. This can lead to getting into too many things or “shiny object syndrome” and having multiple things 25% done.
This is why it’s very important to use your “authority” otherwise you’d be a pinball in a pinball game with everything that lights up your gut response.
The strategy is still based on a “gut response,” then informing, OR based on what lights you up.
Mani-Gens move fast. If they have a team, they’re 10 steps ahead. It’s important to check in to make sure everyone knows what they need to do to support them.
Because Manifesting-Generators move quickly and have a ton of things undone, they have to follow their Authority and their signature feeling, which is Satisfaction.
In business, having systems to support them and team members who are more detailed is a powerful combo.
A recommended team is a Projector to tune your decision-making or a Generator with a 6 line to reel back Mani-Gens with good questions and fill gaps of missed steps. If you don’t want to run a Human Design on your teammates, use a non-spiritual “corporate” personality test like The Kolbe and hire “Follow through” personality types.
Once systems are in place and they have the right support, this energy type thrives! They can move to what excites them.
Examples of how a Manifesting-Generator markets and sells:
Create a post about an offer that lights up your gut and ask for a comment/reply/DM so you can respond.
Break off a piece of your core offer to build into low-dollar offers, giving you flexibility to promote other things that lead to your core offer.
Evergreen Webinars/Challenges/Case Study funnels work well because they attract and convert leads, allowing you to pursue what lights you up without stopping revenue generation.
In summary, Manifesting-Generators follow the same path as Generators: joy paired with freedom and flexibility to play. Don’t chain yourself to something but have a system that gives you a foundation to do that.
Energy Type: Projectors
In business, Projectors hone in on what they do best and speak the truth about what they feel in the moment and bring on support for the rest.
This energy type needs to be seen and recognized for their work, creating an “invitation” from their audience wanting to work with them. (This is your strategy)
A Projector needs to follow their authority and signature feeling on what to focus on to be seen and recognized.
Cold outbound sales is NOT a fit for Projectors.
In terms of speaking the truth, this can be controversial, myth-busting, or saying it as you see/feel it, which may ruffle feathers or trigger people. However, you’re not here to say what people want to hear. That’s not your brand magnetism. You’re here to see what’s going on and articulate it through your message. Use your authority and signature feeling as a guide.
Projectors also see the talents and gifts of others and lead them to get things done in their business.
Projectors are not here to get stuck in the nitty-gritty for a long time, like fixing buttons and colors on a landing page.
Projectors are non-energy types. They can’t keep going like a Generator, Mani-Gen, or Manifestor.
That’s not to say they don’t have the energy to get things done. It means that if they go for too long, they burn out, feel run down, and get sick more often (signs you’ve overextended yourself).
If you’re just starting out and cash-flow doesn’t allow hiring a VA, video yourself doing tasks that don’t give you the signature feeling of “success.” Then document the process to eventually hand off or contract that work out.
This allows you to focus and align with how you are magnetic when you market and sell.
From my experience coaching 100s of entrepreneurial coaches, the burnout period happens around 8-12 weeks for Projectors, normally around 10-12 weeks if you have your “willpower” center defined.
So, if you’re a Projector, make sure you put in days or weeks where you gear down on your work. If you feel burnt out, bitter, or get sick more often, it’s a sign to rest.
Examples of how a Projector markets and sells:
Create content based on what comes through in the moment. To stop randomness, use a note-taking app and jot down ideas when you get hits. Then create content for the week or two.
Evergreen Webinars/Challenges/Case Study/Video Sales Letter funnels work well because they attract and convert leads, allowing you to take time off in your work-rest cycles without impacting revenue much.
End your posts with CTAs to DM you or email replies to encourage invitations from your audience.
A Projector is a very attractive energy type because of the topics they bring up in their marketing message. Your theme is using your voice to guide and lead others by speaking the truths you see in the industry, market, and what people are doing to themselves that aren’t serving them.
In business, Reflectors observe first, talk to people, and call it as they see it based on trends, where things are going, and how people behave.
Reflectors have no defined energy centers. They are fluid and provide unique perspectives because they take in ideas, opinions, and behavior from the environment. They see patterns and detect falsehoods because they’re open to ideas at high expression.
This energy type takes time to reflect on their observations. Their authority is to wait 28 days (based on the lunar cycle) to allow themselves to talk to others and experience different energies throughout the cycle.
As a Reflector, the signature feeling is “Surprise,” like, wow, that worked well. They’re good at taking in things from their environment, conjuring up a plan, and executing. On the opposite side, the Reflector’s not-self theme is “Disappointment.”
A key strategy for Reflectors is to use solid core values as an anchor. This helps them avoid getting into something that’s not right for them.
Reflectors aren’t “fast-moving.” To some, Reflectors may seem to take forever to decide!
But really, they’re allowing things to process and putting things together for a solid plan or next move.
Their marketing and sales plans need systems to support them as they observe and reflect before coming up with the next move.
Another important note is the business model. Reflectors need support and time to flush out the energy they absorb from others. A coaching model that does back-to-back is harmful to a Reflector.
Examples of how Reflectors market and sell
Use a platform that keeps long-term content, like YouTube or an SEO-optimized blog. This allows your unique perspectives to be searchable compared to short-term content on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram.
Evergreen Webinars/Challenges/Case Study/Video Sales Letter funnels work well because they attract and convert leads, allowing you to take time off to observe and process.
DMs and Sales Calls work great for Reflectors as they can adapt and connect with the person on the other side.
A Reflector is wise and has unique perspectives. It’s important to lean into those to separate yourself from others. But also have the systems that give you the space to do so.
Choosing Flow & Pull vs. Chase the Resistance
For each energy type, there is some crossover, like evergreen events. However, how each type operates in the market and sells in those evergreens is completely different.
This blog helps you understand how you work best in marketing and sales systems. It allows space emotionally and mentally, instead of operating a business where you feel like you’re continually chasing and fighting resistance, rather than experiencing flow and pull.
